7 Quick Tips to make Online and Home Workouts a Great new habit:

A lot of us are working from home or spending more time at home this year. One way to make this a bonus for you, your schedule, and the planet is by making working out at home a new lifelong habit. There are a lot of great reasons to get to the gym or studio - social, emotional and expertise, but doing a couple of home workouts can help the environment and save you time on the road.
Here are a few tips to upping your at home workout game.
1. Pick a time that actually works. When will you actually do the workout? If you find yourself not doing the workouts you want - try changing the time! In 2020, I tend to find myself doing my workouts during my workday of first thing in the AM. For a lifetime PM workout person this has been a surprising but pleasant adjustment.
2.Break it UP! On a busy day you can break a workout into 1 - 3 sections. Pilates actually works quite well this way in a pinch. A side benefit I have found is that I end my day more refreshed and ready for a walk or some evening cardio.
3. Dress up for your workout first thing. A work at home benefit is being dressed down. If you are buying fewer work clothes you might want to add to your Pilates wardrobe so that you feel chic and comfortable. Super-comfortable workout clothes that you like being seen in can be are real boost to your mood and workout readiness!
4. Have a dedicated workout space. Set up your “sacred space” and keep it ready with all of your workout things. Find a corner for your mat and flex bands etc… tight on space - organize it and slide it all under the bed or roll it up in a corner. Just be sure your things can be ready in under 10 seconds.
5. Plan ahead. Have a plan for what you will be doing. Join a live group class for some accountability or simply choose your next workout ahead of time or even better select one of our progressive programs like our 5 week New Year New You!
6. Do What You love. When just getting started - pick workouts that you really like first. As it becomes more of a habit you can add in the thing you don’t like so much. But don’t leave out the hip rolls.
7. Reward yourself. Give yourself credit for just for showing up! By making a new habit like this you can improve your whole life. Be positive with yourself. If you really don't feel like working out, consider watching an exercise technique video and just playing with the exercises. This can be an effective way to up your game on what otherwise might be a down day.
To summarize, - be flexible, have a plan, break workouts up, just show up, and make starting a workout as easy as getting out of bed. Be kind with yourself but stay disciplined and you will reward yourself with a great new health habit. Remember those comfortable sweats I mentioned? Maybe they just stay on all week…
